In the Dutch province of Friesland, fierljeppen is a national sport. Essentially, the name means "far leaping," and it involves jumping bodies of water, most commonly canals.
Participants use a long pole with a plate on the bottom to propel themselves forward and over the canal, much like a pole vaulter.

Countries around the world have begun to take notice, including the United States and Japan, who have incorporated fierljeppen into reality competition shows. Still, if you want to try your hand at this insane sport, Holland is the best place to go.
