In 2017, we were constantly bombarded with bad news from what felt like all sides.

There are a lot of reasons for this. Studies show that we actually have a preference for bad news. Just think about how positive news stories are treated -- they're called "puff pieces" and mocked. Beyond that, though, it's true that 2017 was a particularly challenging year for the world. There were natural disasters of epic proportions and political unrest both across the globe and here at home.

Even if you may have missed it, one man decided to emphasize the positive to finish the year right.

Jacob Atkins saw some great news stories over the course of the year, and he decided that we all needed a little pick-me-up and to remember the good.

That's why he started a Twitter thread of positive news stories to encourage others. Read his tweets below to see what you may have missed in all the doom and gloom.

It's so awesome to see these things represented, too. Jacob's thread became so successful that he plans to do a 2018 edition. What was your favorite positive news story of 2017? Sound off in the comments!
