The Sweet Moment Jose Fernandez Got To See His Grandmother After 6 Years Apart

The baseball world was stunned by the tragic passing of Miami Marlins pitcher Jose Fernandez after the 24-year-old athlete died in a boating accident last Sunday.

Players across Major League Baseball and fans alike took to social media to share their grief over the shocking news. A few days later, an incredibly inspirational video started going viral. The footage shows him getting a surprise reunion with his grandmother, a person he described as his best friend and the love of his life.

The reunion took place in 2013 and at that point, the pair hadn't seen each other for six years after Fernandez defected from Cuba along with his mother and sister. Watch as the player is shocked to see his grandmother during an interview. The emotion and love is overwhelming.

Fernandez always said that everything he did in life was for his grandmother. In many ways, we can thank her not only for his kind spirit, but for his dedication to the sport. He was a true ace and brought a lot of joy to the world. He will be missed.
