Colorado is one of the most beautiful places in the world. The views are incredible, the night sky is unobstructed and clear, and the air you breathe is cleaner than many places in America. In other words, there really is no better place for a wolf dog like Loki. His dad, Kelly Lund, captures some of the most stunning moments of their adventures together, and you do not want to miss it.
This is Loki, the husky / arctic wolf / malamute...but you can just call him a wolf dog.
Every day in Colorado is an adventure! And that's crucial for a dog with Loki's genes.
Even with a very small percentage of his DNA being wolf, Loki is still wild at heart.
Dogs like him can be destructive if they're constantly kept indoors. They're great escape artists, and can be timid around people.
While normal pooches need to run around, dogs like Loki need tons of socialization and exercise.
Like...tons and tons of exercise.
Many of his breed end up in shelters as a result of a family realizing too late just how much time, effort, discipline, and love a wolf mix really requires. Loki's dad actually discourages people from getting one of these dogs unless you know you'll be able to provide him or her with a life full of adventure and attention.
But the life this snugglebug lives with his dad is enough to leave him exhausted.
His favorite thing to do is go backcountry snowboarding.
He absolutely loves chasing his dad down the mountain at full speed.
That doesn't mean that he can't enjoy a calm evening at the pond, though...
Or nap time with an adorable baby.
(Again, Loki was heavily socialized as a puppy, so this babe is safe and sound.)
Loki is basically the coolest dog out there.
He's also seen more beautiful things than most of us have or could hope to.
He's pretty much the best spokesdog Colorado could ever ask for.
Just a campfire in the wild with great friends and even better views.
It's an awesome life he leads.
When's the last time you saw a sunset like this?
Or took a nap in a field of wildflowers and pine trees...not a highway or stoplight in sight or earshot?
He's seen tons of sunrises from the tops of mountains.
Lund recalls once in particular when they scaled a mountain with an elevation of 11,000 feet, while it was still dark. Once they reached the summit, in the subzero temperatures, everything around them turned pink. The sky, the snow — everything. Then they set off skiing and racing down the mountain. Can you imagine?
Loki once stood by his dad's side when he needed his pup most.
During one of those backcountry snowing adventures, Lund took a serious tumble, went unconscious, and suffered internal bruising. When he woke up, Loki was there by his side, waiting for him to wake up, whimpering.
This wolf pup also helps support good causes and products...
For instance, Grounds and Hounds donates 20% of their profit to no-kill shelters across America.
When he's not busy scaling mountains or gliding through fresh powder...
He's busy doing something else, like skateboarding!
Or admiring some prickly pear cacti.
Or promoting yet another ethical product, like Arm The Animals.
It's a clothing line that generously donates to reputable U.S. animal shelters.
