Girl Who's Been Struggling With Heart Disease Gets Call About A New Heart

SEPTEMBER 7, 2016  —  By Matthew Derrick

I can't imagine there's anything more stressful and nerve-racking than being on an organ waitlist.

Getting on a donor list is hard enough, but the wait for a perfect match can be almost unbearable. Some patients go months, even years before doctors find a donor for them. Unfortunately, some people pass away before a match is found.

Macey Wright is one lucky little girl.

Wright has been living with a congenital heart defect for most of her life. This past year, when her heart took a turn for the worse, a new heart was her only option. The risk was high for the 14-year-old to experience heart failure.

Then, she got this call...

When Macey and her family arrived at the hospital, they were given the news that she would in fact receive a new heart and was scheduled for surgery later that day. Good things truly do come to those who wait.
