Photographer Christopher Capozziello was born only 5 minutes before his twin brother, Nick. In those short minutes, Nick stopped breathing. His brain was cut off from oxygen and as a result, he has severe cerebral palsy. His muscles cramp for hours or days, he has trouble walking and his can only communicate at a functional level. He understands enough about the world to know what he’s missing.
Nick has trouble connecting with the world, so his twin helped him be taking the photos you see below… letting the world truly see Nick for the first time.
He wanted to capture his brother’s essence, since Nick has trouble communicating.
Not many people understand what it’s like to live with cerebral palsy.
He is afflicted by painful cramps that could last hours… or days.
Nick suffers through life, facing pain, loss and medical treatments.
A matter of minutes caused Nick to have his condition.
He might not be able to communicate well, but he knows what he is missing.
In his pain, Nick finds amazing strength.
Nick isn’t a victim of his disability, he battles it.
He has normal needs, wants and desires.
Nick is a person and he has a life… it just is different than ours.
